Fix for htaccess 301 redirects

Where you see the code:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine on

Directly after RewriteEngine on write your 301 redirects like:

RewriteRule ^oldpagepath$ http://www.newwebsite.com/newpagepath/$1 [L,R=301]

It’s also advisable before you insert your custom 301 rules, to redirect all traffic from .mydomain.com to www.mydomain.com and avoid duplicate content penalties from Google plus make social sharing/tracking etc better.

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain\.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [L,R=301]

Why are rewrite rules important for SEO?

When Google and other search engines receive a 301 response from your server, they will update their records to point to the new address but they will also transfer any existing page rank for the old page directly onto the new one, so just make sure the new page is even more optimised and work on climbing up those rankings!

“I worked with Hilary for a time and during that period I found her to be extremely helpful and articulate. Her work was of highest standard and I was also able to observe how she interacted with her clients. While providing a top class service she maintained friendly and helpful services with them, listened to what they wanted and made appropriate suggestions. Hilary also assisted me with my work and provides services to the local community at large. I have no hesitation in recommending Hilary for any work.”
